What we did
Basements move and basements get damp, which is why vinyl is usually the right answer down there rather than wood or laminate. The slab was ground and levelled first, because vinyl shows every bump underneath it. The planks were glued down so the floor stays quiet underfoot, and the transitions were fitted at the stairs and the utility room door.
