Carpet
Carpet inset into a curved staircase
Carpet set into the top of each tread on a curved flight, wrapped around the rounded starting step, with the dark stained risers left bare.
What we did
Inset treads are less forgiving than a fully carpeted stair. There is no riser to hide the edge against, so every piece is cut to sit square on its own tread with the same margin of bare wood showing on both sides, and any wander in that line is obvious from the hall. The curve makes every tread a slightly different shape, and the rounded starting step at the bottom has to be wrapped so the carpet follows the nose the whole way round without a pucker or a visible join.

More of our work
Curved staircase in carpet
A curved staircase stripped back to bare treads and recarpeted around its full sweep, cut tight to the oak stringer on every winder.
Open riser stairs in carpet
Open riser basement stairs carpeted, with every tread wrapped around the front and the underside so there is no raw edge anywhere.
