A straight flight in a dark tweed

A full width tweed run up a straight flight between an iron balustrade and a plain white wall.

A straight flight carpeted in a dark heathered tweed, run between an oak rail with black iron balusters and a plain white wall

What we did

A straight flight gives you nowhere to hide, which is the opposite of what most people assume. Every tread is the same width, so any drift shows up as a line that is not parallel to the wall, and the eye follows that line the whole way up. The carpet is cut in tight around the foot of every iron baluster, and each tread is pulled onto the gripper hard enough that the pile stays flat on the nose instead of rounding over it.

The same staircase from the landing above, the tweed running true down the middle of every tread
